  5. By the mid 2070s the children's game of 
  6. "Ants and ENCs" had spread worldwide.   
  7. Folklorists and social cartographers    
  8. delineate its origins in versions of    
  9. "Cowboys and Indians" and "Cops and     
  10. Robbers." ENCs were, of course, the     
  11. forces of good and stability, while the 
  12. Ants were forces of disruption and      
  13. chaos. The game was carefully designed  
  14. to reinforce the then-current program of
  15. Anti-Ant sentiment as part of the plan  
  16. to prevent the spread of proscribed     
  17. psychic technology.

  19. The game involved singing the song "The 
  20. Ants Are Coming," while scuffling in a  
  21. daisy-chained circle around a symbolic  
  22. Pole. Later iterations included         
  23. simulated Antarctic Expeditionary Force 
  24. landings and clearing of Ant warrens.
